10 year old girl saves family from fire, Sheriff Hierholzer commends her

UPDATE: New details have been learned about the overnight fire on the 100 block of Sprint Meadow. Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer released this press release Tuesday afternoon.

Press Release:

On January 22, 2019 at approximately 0043 hours, the residence located at 105 Spring Meadow, Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas caught fire.”



“10-year-old Madaline Munoz woke up because she could not breathe due to the smoke and had the presence of mind to crawl from her bedroom to wake the other members of the household.”

”Once Madaline warned everyone in the house, she ran next door and woke her grandparents and asked that they call 911.”

”Madaline’s quick actions saved the lives of her family members. Madaline indicated that she learned how to be prepared for a fire scenario at school.”

”The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is not believed to be suspicious in nature.”



”There were smoke detectors in the home, but they did not appear to have sounded.”

”The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office urges everyone to get smoke detectors for their homes.”

”Most businesses that sell smoke detectors have them ranging in price from $5.00 for a single detector all the way up to $170.00 for a three pack. The batteries in these devices should be checked regularly; time change each year is a good time to check the batteries and change them out if necessary.”

”The Kerr County Sheriffs Office wants to commend Madaline for her bravery and life-saving actions.”

KERR COUNTY (TexasBreaking.com) — A house is uninhabitable after an overnight structure fire on the 100 block of Spring Meadow Lane, south of a Kerrville off of Medina Highway.

The initial call came out at 12:45 AM to Turtle Creek Volunteer Fire Department, with Center Point Volunteer Fire Department and Kerrville Fire Department providing manpower and water.

Kerr County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the fire.
