Wet roadways cause driver to hydroplane and almost flip over

Around 4pm this afternoon on the 3800 block of Highway 16 North, Kevin and Debbie Engel of Fredericksburg witnessed a woman hydroplane in a gold SUV, then strike a hill near the road and almost flip. Airbags were deployed in the single car accident, giving the female driver of the SUV what witnesses described as a possible concussion.

Kevin and Debbie Engel rushed over and offered immediate aid. Luke Lozano, a former marine, arrived on scene and used his medical training until emergency crews arrived to keep the driver still and out of the rain. They found her phone and first responders notified her husband that she was ok, but being taken to the hospital for evaluation.

While they were waiting on KCSO and DPS to arrive on the scene, which wasn’t long, Mr. Lozano grabbed a vest and strobe light in order to get the traffic to slow down.

This serves as a good reminder, that if you see an accident on the side of the road, please slow down in order to keep the area safer for everyone involved.
