BAYTOWN – Monday evening, May 13th, a Baytown police officer fatally shot a woman while attempting to arrest her at the apartment complex where she resided. According to reports, the woman, Pamela Shantay Turner, age 45, had outstanding arrest warrants, the officer, who is unidentified at this time but has been with the Baytown Police Force for 11 years, was watching Turner’s home from alleged previous engagements with her.
Apparently, when the officer attempted to arrest Turner, she refused to cooperate, at this time the officer tased Turner in efforts to get her to comply, officials state. Reports state while the officer was struggling to place Turner in handcuffs she apparently gained control of his taser and used it on him.
A witness cellphone video was captured showing Turner struggling with the officer claiming harassment. Turner continued to wrestle with the officer asking, “But why? Why I didn’t do nothing to you!” and throwing her arms about while she lay on the ground and yelling “I’m pregnant” before the officer opened fire with several shots, at least one shot hit her, Turner was pronounced dead at the scene.
Turner leaves behind two grown children, both in their 20s, and three grandchildren, there are no confirmed reports at this time if she was in fact pregnant.
Steve Dorris, Baytown Police Lt. stated that the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was “on the scene and assisting in the investigation as is normal in these types of incidents.” “Any future updates will be provided via an official press release later today, as the investigation unfolds,” he added.
Turner’s sister, Antoinette, spoke about the situation, stating that Turner was on medication for the treatment of schizophrenia.
Several neighbors commented about Turner saying she was “not a bad person” and she would “just walk around, smoke her cigarettes and walk her dog.” Jonathan Little, resident of the apartment complex stated, “She would walk her dog. That’s all she did was walk her dog and pick up trash. She didn’t mess with anybody. It was just her and her dog.
