TYLER – The Tyler Police Department received several calls a little after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11th, from customers apparently hearing gunfire within Walmart located at Highway 64 and Loop 323.
Reports state that witnesses heard sounds that were similar to what sounded like gunfire coming from either behind or the rear of the store.
“I heard PAT. PAT-PAT-PAT-PAT. It sounded like a cap gun. It didn’t really sound real at first. I saw like a hundred customers, a whole flock of customers running by. My immediate reaction was I’m going to start running with them,” Eddie Christanelli, who was in the store, told CBS 19.
Walmart employees followed safety procedures and protocols and were calmly evaluated the store during the highly stressful situation.
Investigators searched throughout the store, loading areas, and the wooded areas behind the building and no evidence was located that a shooting of any kind took place.
After investigating, Tyler Police reported there was no one evidence of gunfire within the store and no one was injured due to a shooting.
The store was able to reopen to customers a short time later after the incident.
