AUSTIN — A motorist is deceased and his passenger is in the hospital after Austin Police say he was travelling at a high-rate of speed before crashing on an I-35 Frontage Road at about 1:49 am Sunday morning.
Marie Vinum, Senior Police Officer and Public Information Officer for the Austin Police Department, said early Sunday morning that a witness was traveling on I-35 southbound and saw a blue Pontiac Firebird traveling at a high rate of speed behind her.
The witness moved out of the way to let the car go around her and the driver of the vehicle attempted to take the exit ramp near the 10200 block of the I-35 Frontage road.
The driver lost control of the car, hit a parked car, then flipped over and hit the wall of a building.
There were two occupants of the car. The driver, an Hispanic male in his mid 20’s to early 30’s was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Austin police do not know if either occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time.
