SAN ANTONIO – There seemed to be a mistake in identity at the Bexar County Jail between two female inmates.

Both inmates named Amanda Garcia were being housed within the jail on separate offenses, one on a misdemeanor DWI charge and the other on a 2017 drug conviction.

According to officials, the Amada Garcia who was incarcerated for the DWI charge was mistakenly sent to the Mentally Ill Offenders Facility on Saturday, August 30th.

The error was discovered the following day when she was transported back to the Bexar County Jail lock up.

The correct Amanda Garcia was sent to the Mentally Ill Offenders Facility later that day.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, an internal investigation is underway at this time to discover how a mistake like this could possibly occur.

The staff involved with the incident will encounter disciplinary actions.
