Alleged motorcycle gang member apprehended in apparent association to 3 shootings

SAN ANTONIO – 32-year-old Omar Mata was arrested and charged in the alleged connection to three separate shootings in 2018 and 2019.

With several agencies working together close to 6 months to piece together the evidence from all three separate crime scenes, it was determined that shell casings collected were connected according to official reports.

Police officials state Mata is apparently believed to be the Vice President of a local chapter of a motorcycle gang known as the “Bandidos.”

Mata has been the alleged suspect in the shooting that took place near the 9500 block of Console Drive that occurred on December 6th, 2018, the shooting that took place near 4700 block of Pecan Valley Drive on March 18th, 2019, and the shooting near the 6500 block of Babcock Road on July 23rd, 2019 according to official reports.

Officers reopened the two closed cases from December 2018 and March 2019 and started reviewing all the evidence when the shooting in July took place.

Official court documents show Mata been arrested on several previous charges, such as assault with a deadly weapon, evading and resisting arrest, obstruction and drug possession.

Mata has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
