Kemah police chief found dead following boating accident

KEMAH – On Sunday, it was announced by the City of Kemah that Kemah Chief of Police Chris Reed has been found dead in the Houston Ship Channel after he was involved in a boating accident on Friday afternoon.

The Coast Guard said the accident took place on June 7 at approximately 4:00 p.m. when the police chief, who wasn’t wearing a life jacket, fell out of a boat in Galveston Bay when a wave from a large vessel nearby struck the boat Reed was on.

Multiple local, state, and federal agencies assisted in searching over 650 square miles for 40 hours to find Reed. The Coast Guard stated that just before 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, a Galveston County boat crew discovered Reed’s body located about 1.5 miles north of the Texas City Dike near mile marker 32 in the Houston Ship Channel.
