Houston rapper accused of sex trafficking sentenced to life in prison

HOUSTON, Texas — The U.S. Attorney’s office announced that a Houston rapper has been sentenced to life in prison for sex trafficking.

Sources with the Chronicle say 27-year-old Jaimain Sims was convicted of conspiracy and sex trafficking following a five-day jury trial that occurred in May.

Sims, a rapper in a group called Sauce Factory, allegedly trafficked multiple victims and described the way he abused women and children in his music.

Prosecutors said the group was known to “waive around firearms” and large amounts of cash to glorify lifestyles created by sexually exploiting women and girls.

Reports say Sims directed 22-year-old Tabbetha Mangis to recruit a 17-year-old girl to be trafficked to 23-year-old Gary Shawn Haynes Jr.

Investigators say the 17-year-old was briefly taken to a large home in Northwest Houston before being taken to an Express Inn in the city, where she was allegedly given a false ID to rent a room.

Sim reportedly instructed an adult trafficking victim to give the 17-year-old the card and take photos of her to post online to solicit the sexual abuse of the minor.

The woman testified during the trial that she did as she was told because Sims always carried a gun that she saw him use to assault other victims.

Sims’ defense attorneys argued that the trafficking victims engaged in sexual acts “willingly.”

Reports from the Chronicle say prosecutors showed the jury rap videos in which Sims allegedly refers to running a trafficking ring, detailing Mangis’ and Haynes’ roles in it.

He also rapped about “selling white women” and bragged about being a successful “pimp,” according to the Chronicle.

Reports say Mangis and Haynes pleaded guilty to charges related to their involvement in the trafficking activities.

U.S. District Judge David Hittner reportedly called Sims a “threat to society” when his life sentence was announced on Friday, November 22.

Sources with the Chronicle say Sims was ordered to pay $1,575 in restitution to the minor he trafficked and will be required to register as a sex offender.
