EDWARDS COUNTY — A Sheriff’s Deputy was life-flighted Wednesday evening after getting struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop on Hwy 377 near Rural Route 674.
Edwards County Sheriff Pamela Elliot told the Canyon Broadcaster that Deputy Adrian Ruiz was out of his vehicle conducting a traffic stop when he was struck by northbound red truck whose driver had fallen asleep at the wheel.
Deputy Ruiz was life-flighted to a hospital, as well as the driver of the red truck.
Another motorist involved in the crash didn’t sustain any major injuries but did need medical treatment.
An update on Deputy Ruiz’s condition is expected sometime Thursday morning.
