Edwards County Sheriff’s Deputy Ruiz condition update

EDWARDS COUNTY – On Wednesday, September 4th, ECSO Deputy Adrian Ruiz was performing a traffic stop on Highway 377 near Rural Route 674 and was struck by another driver who had allegedly fallen asleep at the wheel of a red pickup.

According to the Canyon Broadcaster, Deputy Ruiz has a fractured femur, broken elbow that may require surgery, and is waiting on trauma doctors to determine the full extent of his injuries to his head, neck, and back.

The Canyon Broadcaster also stated the driver that caused the accident involving Deputy Ruiz has been identified as Carlos Antonio Alanis of Rio Grande City, Texas.

Apparently, Alanis’ driver was confiscated September 1st, 2019, after allegedly refusing to provide samples regarding driving under the influence, stated the Canyon Broadcaster.
