Drunk driver kills Arlington couple, sentenced to 4 months in jail, five years probation

Kevin Christman | Dallas County Jail

DALLAS – A sentence was issued for the man responsible for the deaths of an Arlington couple in November 2015.

The incident happened around 7:10 p.m. on the 13th, while Lauren and Cedric Davis were struck and killed by Kevin Christman, who was driving drunk and ran a red light at the intersection of Harry Hines Boulevard and Moody Street.

The couple, Lauren and Cedric Davis, both 26, of Arlington, were celebrating Cedric’s birthday. They had just finished dinner and started to walk to the area for a Dallas Mavericks game when they were hit.

“[Cedric’s] birthday was that Monday before, and Lauren had bought the Mavs tickets to surprise him,” said Tammy Benthall, Lauren’s mother.

Cedric was reportedly pronounced deceased at the scene while Lauren was taken to the hospital where she passed away the next day.

Kevin Christman is set to serve four months in jail and will spend five years on probation.

Benthall was quoted saying, “The system did not work. It failed us. There is a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.”

The family hopes to change the laws to make it tougher for people to drive drunk.
