DPS Troopers file lawsuit over new ‘waistline requirement’

Published

on

DALLAS According to a recent lawsuit filed by the Texas Department of Public Safety Officer’s Association, a new ‘waistline requirement’ policy is being called “unreasonable” and “demeaning”.

The new policy allegedly calls for male troopers to maintain a waistline of 40 inches or less and female officers 35 inches or less.

Sources say this new policy is part of the agency’s physical fitness test.

Though a trooper may be able to pass the physical portion of this test, they may fail the appearance test.

DPSOA states the repercussions of failing range from being unable to work overtime to being fired.

“Even though you are physically able to do your job, even though you have been doing your job”…..”if you don’t look a certain way, then you have failed,” DPSOA President Lt. Richard Jankovsky said.

This lawsuit is still underway and DPS has not issued a statement as of yet.
