The Rope Swing at 264 River Road in Center Point has been the site of many broken bones, paralyzed victims, and even a fatality in 2017. That rope swing is no more, thanks to Center Point Volunteer Fire Department.
Center Point Volunteer Fire Department used a sky lift to cut the branch that holds the swing, hoping to end the massive amount of injuries from that spot.
People have been climbing up a tree, right off of the road, and then swinging out about 20 feet over the Guadalupe River. A lot of people would back their pickup trucks up, and swing out of the truck beds.
The problem is that some people would swing out, not jump, then swing back in and land on the bank, tree roots, or even a giant rock that sits on the river bank below.
Center Point VFD Chief, Charles Holt, had this to say about why they cut down the rope swing. “Enough is enough. People have been killed, paralyzed and hurt off of the swing. We don’t want to have any more accidents or loss of life because of a swimming hole.”
The Hill Country Community Journal has a list in an article that was published about 10 months ago. The list is pretty extensive.
