Couple arrested for allegedly tying up autistic son and choking him with bungee cords

ABILENE – A woman and her husband were arrested on Sunday evening after Abilene police said she allegedly choked her autistic 12-year-old son with bungee cords until he turned blue.

Abilene police reported that the 12-year-old threw a fit after his ball ended on top of a car.

Jimmy Don Tankersley, 41, allegedly slapped the child and Danielle Renee Tankersley, 38, tied him up on the porch swing with bungee cords.

An arrest report stated that Danielle then told her son that if he got up, she would wrap the cords around his neck and choke him.

Police said that the boy got up and Danielle put the cords around his neck and proceeded to pull them until the child turned blue.

The boy’s older brother, age 19, came in to stop the abuse but Danielle pushed him off and Jimmy slapped him and slammed him into the wall, stated the arrest report.

The couple was arrested by police charged with Injury to a Child. An additional charge of Assault was filed against Jimmy.

Both individuals have been released after posting bail.
