EDINBURG – Two human smuggling attempts were stopped last Friday at the U.S. Border, stated U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
On Friday, June 7, at the Falfurrias checkpoint, U.S. Border Patrol Agents referred a tractor and trailer to a secondary inspection after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to something in the trailer.
CBP reported that during the secondary inspection, 12 Chinese nationals were discovered attempting to conceal themselves within the cargo.
Officials said the driver and the passenger of the tractor and trailer were arrested and the victims were escorted into the checkpoint.
The second incident occurred on the same day when agents were working at the Javier Vega, Jr. checkpoint.
A truck was referred to the secondary inspection area following an alert from a Border Patrol K-9 to the toolboxes lining the bed of the truck.
When the boxes were opened, inside, agents discovered 12 illegal aliens from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
Border Patrol has said that they are processing all subjects accordingly.
Both incidences are currently under investigation.
