The first ever “online only” radio brand in Kerrville, The Edge Rock Radio, now has new owners and is headquartered just outside of Dallas.
Rockwell and Mischievous Mel Anderson of Rockwell Anderson made the big announcement on The Edge Rock Radio Facebook Page early this morning.
The announcement can be seen here, but may contain explicit language –> Announcement
The Edge Rock Radio started back in May 2016 after Mike Taylor (known as McBeasty) lost his job at a local FM station after a stunt that backfired on him. Within a few weeks, The Edge had over 5,000 listener sessions and a new staple was born in The Hill Country.
The first morning show, (The McBeasty Show), had a cast of Mike Taylor (McBeasty), Justin Radkiewicz (Radkowski), John Spencer (himself), Aric Simone (Aric The Dead Sports Guy), Chelsea Olsen, Steve Wagner and on the craziest of mornings, Joel J Gonzales (The Tejano Outlaw). Natalie Steele was rocking afternoons remotely from Austin.
This is historic footage from the first week…
Then shortly afterward, The Edge started broadcasting out of River Hills Mall. This made it possible to start doing live broadcasts of bands like Three Beards and Wall of Soul out of San Antonio, thanks to the promotions director at the time, Pamela Trepanier. Everyone was partaking in the fun, even mall walkers were singing karaoke on air (horrible karaoke sometimes but hilarious none the less).
Here’s a clip of the duo, Mike Taylor and Radkowski, back in Mike’s crazy radio days…
2017 was an even crazier year for The Edge, Brian Keith came on board and Nights became live. New audiences started listening from across the country and by July of 2017, The Edge was up to over 600,000 national page views a month. Fredericksburg native, Madeline Hart joined the team on Middays and added a new, much needed element to the mix, herself and bears (you’d have to listen). The Anthony Rogers show moved from afternoons to mornings and him and his sidekick Bruce Sweeten would spend all morning pranking people.
In late 2017, Brian Keith started running the show, syncing The Edge with San Antonio venues and playing a ton of great San Antonio bands, making the San Antonio music scene known nationwide.
The Edge Rock Radio is all grown up now, serving a national audience, moving on the web dial from www.theedgekerrville.com to www.edgerockradio.com in 2017 and with over 32,000 Facebook followers, 2018 is shaping up to be the best yet.
Rockwell and Mischievous Mel Anderson, the new owners, travel the country and interview the biggest rockstars at the largest music festivals for The Edge Rock Radio and Tattoo Magazine. They also have the world famous Rockwell Anderson Music Mecca store just outside of Dallas. They plan on promoting The Edge Rock Radio at concerts nationwide, and bringing on even more top-level on-air talent from across the country.
The Dallas move also fills a gap in Dallas that has been empty since iHeartRadio consolidated stations and shut down heritage rock-alternative station, 102.1 The Edge in Dallas in late 2016.
Mike Taylor plans on shifting his focus back 100% locally in Kerrville to focus on giving Hill Country residents the best late-breaking news service experience possible. This takes him completely out of the radio business, for the first time since 2010.
The transition takes place from now until June 2018, as The Edge Rock Radio spreads its wings and flies…
