Police arrest man suspected of assaulting woman on Austin trail

UPDATE — The Austin Police Department has made an arrest in the case where the female victim was attacked from behind in Archstone Greenbelt Park in Austin.

Marcus Edward Bellard Jr. was arrested at his residence Tuesday by the APD Violent Crimes Task Force.





Police say he was identified by witnesses and surveillance video and is now in custody in the Travis County Jail.

Bellard Jr. is charged with Aggravated Assault, which is a 2nd Degree Felony.


AUSTIN — A description has been released for the suspect who police say attacked a female from behind while she was walking in Archstone Greenbelt park Saturday afternoon at approximately 1 p.m.





The female victim was alone on a trail in a secluded area of the park when the aggravated assault occurred.

“The suspect acted alone. The female victim was able to fight the suspect off at which point he ran away,” stated a press release from the Austin Police Department.

The suspect is described as:
Black male
5’7” medium build
25-30 years of age
Dark complexion
Nigerian accent
Last seen wearing: sweat pants with a grey or black t-shirt

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she is in stable condition.

APD asks the community to remain vigilant and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
