Austin police find ‘countless rounds of ammunition’ and machete in man’s vehicle following alleged road rage incident

AUSTIN – A suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at a man and his wife while they were driving was arrested on Friday by the Austin Police Department.

Collin Mellenthin, 38, was traveling on E Anderson Lane and as the victim and his wife pulled out in front of him, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at the couple, according to an arrest affidavit.

The victim stated to police that he told his wife to put her head down and to call 911.

As the man looked back at Mellenthin, he reportedly saw him with what appeared to be a machete.

When police arrived, they discovered a black pistol in a holster on Mellenthin’s hip. It was determined that the suspect had a license to carry a firearm.

The affidavit also stated that as officers searched the suspect’s vehicle, they found a machete, multiple guns, magazines for multiple guns, and “countless rounds of ammunition.”

After his arrest, Mellenthin was charged with Deadly Conduct.
