Austin PD identifies woman killed in crash, still searching for others involved

AUSTIN – The Austin Police Department has identified a woman who died in a car crash Friday, August 16th, as Josephine Guerra.

The accident occurred in Southeast Austin in the 3500 block of Montopolis Drive around 5:25 a.m.

Guerra was riding as a passenger in a 2010 Chevy Tahoe.

The Tahoe was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the back of a Chevy Impala.

According to police, the force of the collision caused the Tahoe to depart from the road, causing it to spin out of control into the brush on property belonging to Lower Colorado River Authority.

The Tahoe continued to travel across the property and smashed into a tree before finally coming to a complete stop near a loading dock.

Guerra was thrown from the SUV during the accident and died at the scene.

The driver and another passenger fled the scene after the crash, police are still searching for the individuals.
