BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A 72-year-old inmate of the Bexar County Adult Detention Center reportedly died early this morning after suffering from an apparent medical episode.

A media release from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says the inmate, identified as David Alan Watts, became unresponsive around 2:24 a.m. this morning following the medical episode.

The Detention Center’s medical staff and deputies immediately began performing life saving measures on Watts.

The release says the San Antonio Fire Department was dispatched to the Detention Center for further treatment, but Watts was pronounced dead at 3:03 a.m.

Officials say it appears existing health conditions may have been a factor, however a definitive cause of death will be determined by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Sources say Watts had been sentenced 15 years to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) for Indecency with a Child – Contact.

He was reportedly booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on October 21 and was awaiting transfer to the TDCJ.

The BCSO Criminal Investigations Division, Internal Affairs, and the Public Integrity Unit are investigating Watts’ death per standard procedure.

Converse PD has also been notified as is standard protocol, based on the Sandra Bland Act as well as the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
