ROUND ROCK – 23-year-old Abel Juarez-Franco was arrested following accusations that he broke his 3-month-old son’s bones in separate incidences.
On January 28, Juarez-Franco and the child’s mother reportedly took the baby to Dell Children’s Hospital because the boy had a fever and could not move his leg.
Authorities stated that while the boy was at the hospital, doctors discovered that he had two healing rib fractures as well as fractures in his fibula and femur above and below his left knee.
Doctors determined that the baby had sustained injuries during separate incidences due to the injuries appearing to be in different healing stages.
The injuries were suspected to be the cause of violent pulling, twisting or yanking, according to medical officials.
An arrest affidavit detailed that during an interview with the child’s mother, she said Juarez-Franco was “too strong” with the baby on occasion, adding that he “did not know how to be a father or how to carry a baby.”
She said that during an argument, Juarez-Franco may have picked up the baby “too hard,” according to court documents.
Juarez-Franco told police that he picked up his son and threw him up in the air a few times and the child “cried like he was in pain,” the document read.
Juarez-Franco was charged with a 3rd-degree felony of injury to a child.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
