12-year-old hit by car while collecting donations for youth football team, suspect flees but is later arrested


DALLAS – A 12-year-old was struck and killed by a vehicle on Saturday afternoon while he was collecting donations for a youth football team.

According to the Dallas Police Department, the boy who was identified as Ricky Tave, was attempting to cross West Ledbetter Drive near Vista Wood Boulevard on July 6 at approximately 1:30 p.m when he was struck by a Nissan Altima.

Tave was transported to Children’s Medical Center Dallas where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said that the driver, identified as Jastasia King, 26, reportedly stopped but got back into her vehicle when witnesses tried to detain her. DPD added that the woman fled the scene but was later found and arrested.


King was charged with accident involving death with jail records showing bond forfeitures for three misdemeanor charges. Her bail was set at $52,500.
