HIDALGO – It was reported by the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) that a group of 168 illegal aliens consisting of family units and unaccompanied children was placed into custody on Sunday in Hidalgo by Weslaco Border Patrol Agents.
The individuals were said to be from Central America, Venezuela, and Cuba.
CBP stated that the Rio Grande Valley Sector has been experiencing an influx of illegal aliens attempting to cross the border in the area adding that the number of apprehensions has surpassed the number experienced in 2014 during the humanitarian crisis.
It was detailed by CBP that so far in Fiscal Year 2019, 90% of the apprehensions were from countries other than Mexico.
“With apprehensions in excess of 1,000 per day, the RGV Sector personnel continues to process the illegal aliens as quickly and efficiently as possible,” concluded CBP.
