EXTREME WEATHER ON THE RISE AGAIN IN TEXAS

NWS

TEXAS — A cold pool of air residing at high altitude will move eastward from northern Mexico into west Texas on Monday.

At the surface, a trough will deepen in the eastern side of the Rockies as winds become backed to the south-southeast across parts of the southern Plains.

The western edge of a moist airmass should be in place across west Texas where model forecasts develop moderate unstable atmosphere by afternoon.

Enhanced in the far west Texas combined with surface heating should result in the starting of scattered thunderstorms around midday.

This convection is forecast to move east-southeastward across west and southwest Texas during the mid to late afternoon.

A cluster of storms is forecast to persist into evening, possibly affecting south-central Texas by late evening.

This environment will likely support supercell development with large hail.

Supercells should also be capable of damaging wind gusts.

As the cluster of storms moves east-southeastward, the development of severe weather and substantial damage will also be possible.

Wind damage and hail may occur with the stronger short line of storms.
