Tivy student charged with making terrorist threat on social media

KERRVILLE, Texas (TexasBreaking.com) – A Tivy High School student was arrested and charged with making a terroristic threat Thursday after school administrators received an anonymous report on a P3 app on January 2, 2019, about a social media post allegedly made by the student.

According to school administrators, the nature of the post prompted school officials to notify law enforcement and an investigation began immediately after.

The student from Kerrville, identified as Ethan Rodriguez, 17, was arrested and charged with Terroristic Threat Cause of Fear or Imminent Serious Bodily Injury.

“The investigation concluded that the student had no plan nor any means to carry out a threat, and the student was not intending to harm students or staff in any way.”

“Sadly, the student reported to law enforcement that the post was created as a joke,” said the letter to parents, dated January 3, 2018.

However, threats against any school are very serious, no laughing matter, and can cause serious consequences, as in this case.

School officials are asking parents to have conversations with their children about the seriousness of making any type of threats against schools, students or staff.

Tivy High School Principal Shelby Balser said that “School safety is a top priority in Kerrville ISD. We have systems in place to make our schools safe such as the P3 reporting app. Students who made the report on P3 are to be highly commended.”

Rodriguez sits in the Kerr County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
